Nightmare Classes

In High School, crappy classes are the norm. Everyone’s more or less taking the same curriculum, so your chances of ending up with a grumpy professor and a backpack full of homework are high. In college though, this isn’t quite the case. Instead, you’re the one making the schedule now and outside of a few requirements, you don’t have to take any class you don’t want to. For this reason, it’s absolutely necessary that you craft your schedule wisely. In order to make the most out of your college experience, follow these five tips, and you might just find yourself enjoying school for the first time in your life.

1. Look up the professor

Seriously, look up the professor. Sometimes the only difference between two classes is the professor teaching it, and if one’s handing out F’s on the regular and the other hasn’t given out a C all year, you know which class you want to be in.

2. Look for afternoon time slots

To put it lightly, I was a little naïve going into my freshman year. I figured that, since I had been waking up for 8AM classes all through high school, 8AM Intro to Japanese, five days a week should be a piece of cake. To make a long story short, I failed that class. Now I try to avoid anything before ten o’clock.

3. Figure out the required materials beforehand

As if tuition and room & board weren’t enough already, books tend to expensive too. If you’re in a situation where this might be an issue, make sure you look up the cost of class materials beforehand. You shouldn’t necessarily count a class out because of this, but at least see if you can borrow a book from a friend or find it for cheap online. You don’t want to be dropping $100’s at the book store unless it’s absolutely necessary.

4. Take it with a friend

There’s no better way through a tough course, than by taking it with a friend. Whether you need someone to study with, someone to remind you about the homework, or just someone to take away a bit of the monotony, a good friend can make any difficult class much more manageable.

5. Don’t major in accounting

Is class every not a nightmare when you’re in accounting?

If you follow these five tips, you should be able to make it through even the toughest courses college has to offer. Ignore them, and you might just end up the class of your worst nightmares. Whichever path you take is up to you!
