Organisational Life Hacks Part 1

Disorganized Apartment

Trust me, I know it’s really easy to slack off when it comes to being neat. Mom’s not around to tell you to clean your room and you’re like “No right, no wrong, no rules for me, I’m free!” (#Elsa) and people sometimes I am totally on that boat with you. But let’s be real, it’s a small space and odds are you share it with at least one person. At some point, it’s going to start to get gross. In addition, as we are “Livin’ that college life,” saving money becomes a priority and though some of these tips might be no brainers, take my advice if you’re not doing these things because in the long run, you’ll be glad you did.

  1. Tip one: Reuse grocery bags. Those plastic bags that we all get when we go grocery shopping can seem like a waste and throwing them away hurts my eco-friendly heart. Instead, why not use them as trash bags? There’s no need to buy “Hefty, Hefty, Hefty” trash bags, just use plastic grocery bags. It’ll save money, effort (going out to buy said trash bags-oh the struggle), and you’re helping the environment. It’s a win, win, win!
  2. Tip Two: Don’t clutter the walls. Though I’m all for a band poster or two on the walls, sticking too much on the walls will make the room look cluttered (especially if organization isn’t your thing as it is). In this case, two negatives do not make a positive! If you have a tendency to put things on the floor, I would just stick to a few subtle accents on the walls. For me personally, since I like to study in my room sometimes, if there’s too much to look at elsewhere, then staying focused on what’s important get more and more difficult.
  3. Tip Three: Don’t put things off. Especially cleaning. For me, cleaning my room can seem a bit overwhelming if I’ve let things go and all my stuff is everywhere. It is much easier and much less time consuming to just put things away as soon as you’re done with them. That way, your room will always be clean and you won’t have to think about how much time you’ll have to spend on one specific day to clean your room!
