The Perfect Weekend: 4 Easy Tips

Weekend Fun

It’s almost the weekend. So very soon, you’re going to be given freedom, and the satisfaction of a job well done. You have two days (and Friday evening) to do…whatever. So what do you do? How do you make use of such awesome freedom? Well, that’s where I come in.

1. Start Strong (And Early)

I recommend a strong start to your weekend. A Thursday night party is an ambitious proposition, but it can pay awesome dividends. Your Friday might be a little bleh (or not, depending on your schedule) but you essentially gave yourself a whole extra weekend night. A Thursday night excursion gives you more options: a bad Friday or Saturday night now has a replacement waiting in the wings. If you go out Thursday night, you can stay in Friday if the night seems lame, or, better yet, you can do double-or-nothing.

Seize the weekend, and seize it fast. Otherwise, it can slip away from you.

2. Plan Your Day

Most people plan their nights fairly well, I’ve noticed- they have this party, or this dinner, or this pre-game, or even this Netflix binge to settle into. That’s excellent, and I recommend it. But planning your day is an under-rated tactic.

No, I don’t mean setting up your hangover brunch (although that is a smart move.) I mean taking advantage of your location. Are you in a city? There’s tons of options: off the top of my head, there are museums, aquariums and parks easily around you. Are you in the country? There’s a gorgeous expanse of open air all around you- explore it. Don’t watch re-runs in pajamas quite yet.

With a little effort, your days can be as good as your nights.

3. Do Something You’re Proud Of

While the weekend is fun, there’s a serious opportunity to be had in the time you have off. You should do some work on the weekend- not for “work” but for you.

I’m not talking about running errands- that’s something that can be done after work, in a pinch- but about doing something you’re proud of. Weekends give you the long stretches of free time that you can really enjoy. Read a good book. Go for a real workout, one that includes cardio and a steam-room after. Give your parents that long call you’ve been meaning to do for a while now. Get that one piece of furniture your place needs. Whatever it is, it should be something that you simply can’t do on a regular day, and it should be something that keeps you smiling and proud of your weekend even after the party is over. Drinking is great, but on Tuesday, this will be the thing you remember fondly of your weekend.

4. Save Some Weekend for the Week

This, to me, is the sign of a great weekend- after you’ve done this three things, you should save some weekend over for the working week-version of yourself.

Think about it: what are you going to want more on Wednesday than a slice of Sunday? Save yourself a treat for the week- get some snacks or treats for the upcoming week. Get rested up so Monday doesn’t seem quite so bad. Do the laundry, so your wardrobe is fresh. Whatever it is, it should be something that sets the rest of your week up for success, even as Saturday fades into a faint memory.
