Description

The Whitney Penthouse - Welcome to the Penthouse Apartment on Whitney. You have never seen a third-floor apartment in a multi-family house like this. All the stops were pulled out to make this truly an executive and penthouse style apartment. Everything in the apartment is newer, professionally done, lots of custom extras, and a ton of thought and energy were put in to make this an incredibly special space. The words here and pictures will only go so far - you will have to see it in person to appreciate the details and uniqueness.

We will start with the complete historic exterior restoration. This exterior project took about a year and we painstakingly stripped all the paint from the house and trim. We also replaced about half of the red cedar shingles, reproduced original 1905 style trim, added mahogany roof ceilings to the soffits and porches, and added decorative copper flashing throughout, all to bring back the original grandeur of this 1905 Victorian home. This light-yellow beauty is one of the biggest historic renovations in the neighborhood and unheard of for a three-family house.

Walking into the apartment you will notice that we opened the living room by taking down three walls. There is a custom wrought iron railing that is one of the focal points of this room and ceiling fan to help keep it comfortable. The entire apartment has refinished original fur hardwood floors that start in this room and go throughout. The living room is big enough for a sectional couch and large tv. The two of the bedrooms are right off the living room. There is a custom stained-glass window that is between one of the bedrooms and living room that gives privacy and allows more natural light in. There is also a rare third floor laundry closet off the living room with stackable high efficiency front loading units that will stay for the next tenant.

The front bedroom is large enough to fit a king bed. There are three large Victorian windows that drench this space in natural light. There are two closets in the front bedroom (overall there is tremendous closet space in this apartment). The second bedroom is also above average size with a walk-in closet and a half bath attached. The apartment has 1 full bath and 1 half bath, which is also unique.

The real surprises are when you walk towards the back of the apartment. The first thing you will notice is the custom glass subway tiled shower and travertine floor bathroom. This is right of a pottery barn catalog. It has a custom vanity with a matte granite finish and porcelain fixtures. There is also a 100 year-old radiator that we sandblasted and restored that is really neat. The shower is oversized with a large niche for your soap and shampoos. It has the highest rated (consumer reports) rain forest shower heads that feels like a waterfall. This apartment was designed for the owner so there are a lot of extras like this.

One of the best parts of the apartment is the granite custom "L" kitchen with marble backsplash, wine rack, crown molding, light rails, new high-end stainless steel appliances. We ran an entire new gas line up to the third floor for the convenience of a gas stove. There is a space saver stainless steel microwave that is even vented outside.

If you are not convinced yet, the show stopper is the third floor deck off the kitchen. This used to be a window that we opened up to be a large sliding glass door to a 8 x 16 composite deck. We put an outdoor electrical outlet and light to really make this space functional three seasons of the year. No where will you find outdoor living space on a third-floor apartment and it's uncovered (no roof) which really brings the outside into the kitchen. There is tremendous natural light with the deck facing west and a great spot to soak in the sun. It's like you are perched up in a nest overlooking the back of Whitney and Oxford street. Great views. One of a kind!

Lastly, there is a full walk in closet that is almost big enough for another room (no windows though). It's great for a walk-in closet or pantry, or just extra storage space.

The owners put in high efficiency natural gas heat (92%+ efficient) to help keep the heating bills reasonable. The location is perfect with Elizabeth park only 2 blocks away (enjoy their free concert series in the summer) and UConn law school walking distance. Mo's breakfast is the best in Hartford county and a 5-minute walk. Great bars and restaurants walking distance away like Tisane, Tangier (wow those falafels), Half Door. West Hartford line is also two blocks away on Fern. You are 5 minutes to West Hartford Center/Blue Back Square.

Please keep in mind we a strict application process that focuses heavily on good credit. There is also a background check, employment and income verification.. Tenant pays for heat (gas), hot water (gas), and electricity. Owner pays for snow removal, lawn care, water. Quiet tenants on the first and second floor already. Two off street parking spots available including a covered spot. One month security with a strong application. Pets considered on a case by case basis.

Thanks for reading all of this and considering The Whitney Penthouse for your next home.
