Description
The Lofts at the Highlands stands on ground that holds a special place in the hearts of many long-time St. Louisans. The Forest Park Highlands amusement park and the St. Louis Arena both once stood where we stand today... Known as âThe Checkerdomeâ and âThe Old Barn,â the St. Louis Arena stood here from 1929 to 1999. The St. Louis Hawks won the 1958 NBA Championship here and the Arena was home to The St. Louis Blues from 1967 to 1994. It was demolished on February 27, 1999. The two buildings encompassing Lofts at the Highlands stand almost directly in the footprint of the Arena. The Lofts at the Highlands draws its name from the Forest Park Highlands amusement park, which stood from 1896 until a fire destroyed much of the park in 1963. The office buildings that stand just north of us have âwavyâ rooftops in tribute to the roller coaster that was once a central part of the amusement park. The Lofts at the Highlands feature one, two, and three bedroom loft apartments that include reserved garage parking, full size washers and dryers, and controlled access.
Driving directions
From Highway 44, exit on North on Hampton. Take Hampton to Oakland and make a right. Make another right onto Highlands Plaza Drive. From Highway 170, exit on East Forrest Park Parkway to Kingshighway and make a right. Follow Kingshighway over Highway 40 making a right onto Oakland. Take Oakland to Highlands Plaza Drive and make a left.
