Improve the Environment

Are you one of those people who always leaves the lights on, takes 15 minute showers and always drives to work a couple blocks away, when you could walk or bike instead? Helping to improve the environment is easier than you think. It should be everyone’s responsibility to do their part in making the world a healthier and more sustainable place to live.

Follow these simple tips and you will be on your way helping the planet!

  1. Walk or bike instead of driving- Driving a traditional gasoline car is one of the worst polluters today. If your destination is close by, rather walk or bike instead of driving as this is an excellent way to decrease the amount of pollution. If you are planning to go farther way, use the bus instead.
  2. Eat less meat- Believe or not, animal agriculture accounts for more than half of all the greenhouse gases on Earth with methane from cattle being the primary contributor; It takes approximately 2,500 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of meat. Cutting down on the amount of meat you eat can significantly cut down on the amount of harm done to the environment. Try meatless Mondays once a week as a start.
  3. Recycle- the most common and easiest thing we can all do for the environment. Most cities have local recycling centers where you can bring your items to recycle. Most, if not all household items are recyclable including all plastic bottles, glass, paper, computers and much more.
  4. Go greener- Some things to keep in mind include: buying rechargeable batteries, adjusting your thermostat according to season, using energy efficient light bulbs, and buying local produce which can save tons of energy because most store produce has to travel nearly 1,500 miles just to reach the destination.

These simple tips will help contribute to making the environment a more eco-friendly place.
