The Most Expensive College to Live at in Each State [MAP]

The cost of college has never been more expensive with costs rising faster than inflation. What students pay for higher education can vary greatly depending on a number of factors, but one of the most important–and often overlooked–costs is housing. Sometimes, living off-campus near a university is incredibly expensive.

We wanted to dig into rental property price data from our campuses and determine which colleges have the most expensive off-campus housing costs in each state.

For our analysis, we took the average asking rents in June 2016 for 2-bedroom rentals near every major university in the country. As you might expect, it is really expensive to live near your university in San Francisco, New York, and Boston and pretty cheap to live off-campus in South Dakota and Wyoming. But within each state, the costs can fluctuate a lot based on location and population.
